Causes of Miscarriage

Premature Rupture of Membranes and Early Labour
It is not a secret that many miscarriages start with cramping as well as with labour – like symptoms. Therefore true PROM and early labour are usually associated with those babies, which in at least the second or third trimester. As a rule the problem of early labour is treated with the help of medicines, which work by relaxing the uterus and the woman, who suffers from this problem is to be put on bed rest either at home or in the hospital.

However, there are cases, when the baby does come. This loss is considered to be one of the worst and traumatic in the life of any woman, who experienced it. After the 20th week of pregnancy it is practically a stillbirth, and not a miscarriage, because a woman will usually hold and see her baby, she will wish he or her would be able to breathe. In some cases the baby will even be delivered alive, but he or she will live no more than a few days, hours, or, even minutes. The reason of this is that the baby’s organs and systems are not yet mature enough to survive outside the mother’s organism.
PROM is defined as the woman’s water breaking before the 37th week of pregnancy, the age that is considered full term. Most women, who experience leaking or gushing of amniotic fluid, are to be placed on antibiotics and they are to go to the hospital, because there is an extremely high risk of getting of some infection. In case if any infection does come, the baby is to be delivered.
A baby is to weigh at least 500 grams or about one pound to be able to survive outside his or her mother’s organism.

There is an opinion that PROM is caused by either some infection or inflammation of the uterus and / or of fetal membranes. However, it is not understood completely, how these infections can occur, or why they can become the reason of a rupture or the membrane. In addition, neither pelvic examination nor yeast infections are considered to increase a woman’s risk for PROM. Therefore, it is also important to point out, that there is a tendency of PROM to reoccur. If a woman is aware that she is at risk, and if because of this she will take all the appropriate precautions, then her baby can in her uterus as long as possible, and even as long as it is necessary.

Others: Infections, Age, Chronic Disease
There are lots of infections, which can become the reason of a miscarriage, most of them are considered to be the big ones, such as syphilis, toxoplasmosis, malaria, mycoplasma, etc. No upper respiratory infection is able to cause a miscarriage, the same is with viruses. Moreover, any “normal” illness, like the common cold can not become the reason of a miscarriage. There are only a few common illnesses, which can cause either a miscarriage or some fetal malformation. Though, they are considered to be dangerous only if a woman catches any of them during the first trimester of pregnancy. Such illnesses as Chicken Pox and Fifth Disease may be referred to them. Most women already have immunity to these diseases by the time they get pregnant, as they have already had them before. This is why they may not get worried about possible exposure to these illnesses during their pregnancy. Therefore, in case if a woman thinks that she may not have immunity, she should better ask her doctor to run an antibody titer in order to see if she has a live antibody or if there is old antibody to the disease in her blood. Only in case if there is the live antibody and when there is no old antibody, than it is dangerous.

It is necessary to point out, that any infection, which becomes the reason of a fever of over than 101 degrees Fahrenheit, then it is to be treated right away. A woman is to take some medicine, which will help a woman to keep her fever down and she is to stay in touch with her doctor, though, the risk that prolonged fever can influence her baby is small enough.

However, it should also be noted, that AIDS and German Measles are the potential reasons of a miscarriage at any time during pregnancy. To the biggest risk most infections, which affect the uterus directly can be referred; however, yeast infections do not belong to them. In addition, it is important to point out, that different types of yeast infections occur quite often during the pregnancy term.

Age may be considered as the reason of a miscarriage, when a woman takes into consideration what aging can possibly to do her baby. And the most common factor here is connected with the issue of chromosomes. Though, it should be noted, that it is not A WOMAN, who has a problem, it is her EGG or SPERM, which also become older. However, there are a lot of other problems, except the one, which has anything to do with the chromosomes. These problems are poor health, hormonal imbalance, or some acquired disease, which can make a pregnancy much more difficult to sustain. However no woman should start considering these problems in great numbers until she is after 40.

Health problems in a woman can become possible reason of a miscarriage. Such chronic diseases as diabetes, thyroid disorders, heart problems, etc may become the reason of a miscarriage. However, if a woman suffers from any chronic disease, this does not mean at all that she will have a 100% miscarriage, she should simply be somewhat more careful and she is to make sure that her treatment is adapted, if it is necessary, during the period of her pregnancy.

Accidents do not become the reason of a miscarriage often. Any future mother is to keep in mind, that her baby is protected in its amniotic sac well enough, in addition he or she is surrounded by fluid, and even a hard blow to the abdomen will most likely only rock him or her. In addition, there is a statistics, in accordance with which women, who even had a car accidents and received some traumas had their babies just fine. However, it does not mean that a woman should not take care of herself and expose herself to all kinds of risky adventures.
