Being Pregnant With Twins: Prenatal Care
prenatal_careIf you found out about your carrying more than one baby, it does not mean that you are running a high risk, if you are not dealing with higher order multiples or if you have no serious health problems, of course. In case if you find a good doctor, who is experienced with multiple pregnancies, and who is not on panic at every corner, you may simply relax and take it easy.
Considering your diet issue, you need to eat more protein, as it is the building block of every cell in your organism and in the organisms of your babies. With the help of protein, you will have a good placenta and strong amniotic sac, and keeping to a healthy diet will help you as well as your little ones to fight against any infection.

During the last pregnancy trimester, you will probably need to visit your doctor more often, as there is the risk that your kids will want to arrive somewhat before their natural term. However, for twins the term of arrival somewhere between the 35th – 37th pregnancy weeks is considered as “natural”. Triplets usually arrive between the weeks 33rd – 35th, and if you are expecting quadruplets, there is a high chance for you to deliver them not later than during the 29th – 32nd weeks. Of course, not all babies are able to survive on their own, if born so early, but nowadays there are medical supplies, which guarantee them further development until they will be able to breath, suck on their own and until they gain enough weight and height. So, if you are expecting two, three, or even four babies, then you will have to visit your doctor once a month until the 25th pregnancy week, then do it every other week until you come to the 32nd week, and, finally, your visit will occur weekly until the very delivery (in case if the babies do not arrive by that time).
It is also possible that you will need to conduct more testing than those women who expect only one baby, (like non – stress testing, more ultrasound investigations, etc), though it is not necessary that you will.

prenatal_care_babyWhat Kind of Practitioner Should I Better Choose?
Usually any woman chooses the doctor, she will visit during her pregnancy long before she discovers about expecting more than one babies. However, if you have not seen your gynecologist or obstetrician yet, then you are to visit him or her as soon as possible. There are cases, in which you will have to visit a perinatologist as well. Perinatologist is the obstetritian, who specializes in high – risk pregnancies, and some of them do not deliver babies themselves, but they only work together with other obstetricians during the child birth process.
