Abortion is called the termination or end of pregnancy. It may also be defined as delivering the fetus before it is possible the conditions outside the uterus before the 20th week of gestation. There are two possible kinds of abortion: spontaneous, which is also called a miscarriage – it is considered to be the termination of pregnancy that has not been induced artificially; and induced, which is also called either medical or therapeutic abortion, and which is performed with the aim of pregnancy termination.

Abdomen is the part of the body, where all structures, present between the chest and the pelvic area are contained. The abdomen is separated from the chest by the diaphragm, the powerful muscle spanning the body cavity below the lungs.

Abdominal is called anything, which has any relation to the abdomen.

Abnormal is something, which is not considered to be normal. It is something deviating from the usual structure, position, condition, behavior. Considering the growth and / or development, abnormal may mean something cancerous or premalignant, when it is referred to a woman, and something, which goes wrong, and not the way, it is to go, when it is referred to a fetus.

Afterbirth is the placenta along with other tissues, which are associated with the development of a fetus, and which get expelled after the baby’s arrival.

Albumin is a kind of protein, which is present in the urine of a pregnant woman, and which can be one of the signs of pre - eclampsia

Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a kind of substance, which is produced by the unborn baby during its growth and development inside his mother’s uterus. There is a lot of AFP in the amniotic fluid. In case if the amount of Alpha-fetoprotein is larger than normal, it may be an indication of some neural – tube defects of the fetus.

Amino acids - these are substances, the action of which may be compared with the building blocks in the developing embryo and / or fetus.

Amniocentesis is the term, which describes the procedure of removal of some amount of amniotic fluid from the amniotic sac. The amniotic fluid is necessary to be tested for some genetic defects.

Amnion is called the membrane, which surrounds the amniotic cavity around the developing fetus.

Amniotic fluid is called the liquid, which surrounds the developing embryo and fetus inside the amniotic sac.

Amniotic sac is a kind of sac, which surround the developing embryo and fetus inside the uterus. There is the baby, placenta and the amniotic fluid, contained in the amniotic sac.
