Contraception for Teens

Here comes the list of contraception methods, you may use if you want to prevent unplanned pregnancy. You should read and choose the best and the most affordable method of pregnancy prevention for you.
 All the Methods of Contraception are roughly divided into two categories: methods, which are free, they do not require anything, and those, which do need some kind of a device or supply.
 There are Methods of Contraception, which do not require the use of any device, and the only thing, you need for it is your and your partner’s mutual agreement and understanding each other. To the so – called “free” or “traditional” methods of contraception belong:

Abstinence
 Abstinence has its own meaning for every person. For teenage girls it is mostly having no sexual contacts, or at least it is not having vaginal intercourse (when the penis enters the vagina). Of course you do understand, that the best way to prevent yourself from getting pregnant is abstinence. This way of pregnancy prevention is 100 % reliable, it never fails. For some teenagers and even adult people it is not the matter of religion, moral, it is simply a lifestyle choice, as they want to stay virgin up to their marriage.

The Advantages of Abstinence
• This way of pregnancy prevention is free, and it is generally available;
• It is simply VERY effective in the unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections prevention;
• If you have had sex already, you can start and finish abstinence any time you wish;
• Abstinence can help you gain self – respect, and a worthy boyfriend will also begin to feel respect toward you, and this may be the beginning of building your relationship in other, far more developed way;
• Being abstinent, you are able to find new ways to show your love toward each other and it increases creativity in your relationship much, making it more interesting and touchy;

The Disadvantages of Abstinence
• If you were going to use abstinence as the unplanned pregnancy prevention method, and you have changed your mind at the last moment, you may not be able to use any other contraception method (like condom, spermicide, etc), as you may not be prepared to it.
• You may find it very difficult to talk to your boyfriend about abstinence, as you may either not know how to start this kind of a talk, or your partner m ay not understand you.
• You may get under your friends’ or other people or mass media pressure, and think that having no sex would be somewhat “not fashionable”, which can make you feel like “missing out”.
• If abstinence for you is not having the penis – in – vagina contact, you still are not protected form sexually transmitted diseases, like herpes, genital warts, gonorrhea, and HIV or AIDS.
• If you have been abstaining to the present moment, you may not know much about other methods of unplanned pregnancy prevention.

Outercourse
 Outercourse is the kind of sexual intimacy, which excludes getting the penis into vagina. It may include touching, kisses, hugs, hands holding, below the belt petting, even oral – genital contact, etc. But you should keep in mind that some kinds of contacts do not provide protection against sexually transmitted diseases.

 The Advantages of Outercourse
• It does not require using any device, and for many people it is fun and a good option used instead of having direct sexual contact;
• You may not get worried about your pregnancy at all, this method proved to be 100 % effective;
• Outercourse has no medical complications;
• There is protection not only from pregnancy, but from sexually transmitted diseases as well, although it does not provide the complete protection from infectons;
• You can become emotionally closer to each other.

 The Disadvantages of Outercourse
• Your partner may wish to have more, and this may cause force applying;
• You may be constantly thinking about going farther, and either you wish it or not, it will keep you from having complete enjoyment;
• If you have switched to the direct sexual contact, you have no protection either against an unplanned pregnancy, or against sexually transmitted diseases.

Withdrawal
Withdrawal is pulling the penis out of the vagina, as soon as a partner feels that he is about to come. The ejacuation occurs outside the woman’s vagina, no sperm gets into it, and no pregnancy occurs. This method will work better if you have discussed it with your partner beforehand. But you are to remember, that it requires great discipline from your boyfriend! According to the statistic only 27 % of women get pregnant if they use the Withdrawal Method less than one year, and if they use it consistently, it proves to be about 95 % effective.

The Advantages of Withdrawal
• Withdrawal requires no additional devices to be used;
• If you use it every time and for a long period of time, it may be extremely effective;
• Applying the Withdrawal Method of Contraception may increase your partner’s understanding and awareness of his sexual response cycle.

The Disadvantages of Withdrawal
• Neither you no your boyfriend can get completely relaxed and enjoy having sex, as you both are constantly thinking about how not to skip the necessary moment;
• You or your partner may want to keep thrusting even after it is time to pull out;
• The Withdrawal Method provides no protection against sexually transmitted diseases and infections;
• Some little amount of sperm may be present in the preejaculatory fluid, which does come into your vagina;
• Some men are not able to this kind of Contraception Method, as they may be having ejaculation prematurely.

 Other Methods of Contraception are considered to be modern, as they need some quite recently invented device to be used.
